Fundamental Credit Research
The US fundamental credit research team sits in Barclays’ New York offices and is a key component of the company’s Markets division. The team consists of sector-oriented analysts that publish trade-oriented research to institutional clients. Investment products include bonds, loans, credit default swaps and convertible debt across investment grade and high yield markets.
Overall Purpose of the Role
The US credit research team seeks an Analyst to work directly with a Senior Analyst within the fundamental credit research team. This position requires someone who has modeling skills, solid written and verbal communication skills, and a genuine interest in digging into company fundamentals as well as developing relative value skills.
The credit analyst provides investment research for our institutional clients and internal constituents. The role may eventually include writing investment analysis, as well as providing updates, models, corporate access and investment recommendations to clients. Analysts are also required to market their ideas and industry expertise to our institutional clients, as well as to make sure that Barclays credit sales is well informed of our views and ideas. In addition, credit analysts will be expected to educate investors as part of the new issue process when Barclays is engaged on a bond and/or loan offering in the primary market.
Main duties and responsibilities
Credit analysts are expected to act in accordance with strict regulatory requirements and partner with colleagues in compliance and Research Production to ensure that firm, industry and government regulations are followed. Other key junior analyst requirements include:
· Develop/update financial models and help support the Senior Analyst in the relevant sector(s).
· Develop a deep understanding of the industry and review risks and opportunities associated with individual credits.
· Closely follow market movements, news and regulations in order to develop detailed analyses of individual credit situations.
· Identify relevant topics of discussion from both a credit and macroeconomic perspective, and leverage the firm’s research from other disciplines (including economics, equities, and strategy), as required.
· Eventually support the trading business in understanding
