The University of Virginia Medical Center is seeking a Desktop Systems Engineer to join the Health Information & Technology division that provides desktop IT support for the School of Medicine. The Systems Engineer will perform advanced implementation/support for systems application and monitoring; be responsible for installing configuring and maintaining operating system workstations and servers including web servers in support of business processing requirements; perform software installations and upgrades to operating systems and layered software packages; schedule installations and upgrades and maintain them in accordance with established IT policies and procedures; monitors and tunes the system to achieve optimum performance; develops and promote standard operating procedures; conducts routine hardware and software audits of servers to ensure compliance with established standards policies and configuration guidelines; develops and maintains a comprehensive operating systems hardware and software configuration database/library of all supporting documentation; provides integrated team support and maintenance of desktop hardware and software; provides design and implementation support for hardware including HP/Compaq Server line Microsoft Windows operating systems Active Directory Group Policy TCP/IP/WINS/DHCP/DNS SQL Exchange Clustering WLBS SNA. SAN/NAS and advanced support; and provides on-call support during nightly on call rotation and upon escalation.

Duties and Responsibilities Include:

- Performs server hardware maintenance
- Performs application-level support.
- In addition to the above job responsibilities, other duties may be assigned.

Position Compensation Range: $28.25 - $45.19 Hourly


Education: Bachelor's degree

Experience: 3 years of relevant experience

Licensure: Valid Virginia Driver's License required

PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Job requires sitting and standing for prolonged periods frequently bending/stooping and walking (distance: 1 2 miles/day) and reaching (overhead extensive repetitive). Proficient communicative auditory and visual skills; Attention to detail and ability to write legibly; Ability to lift/push/pull 20 - 50lbs. May be exposed to chemicals fumes blood/body fluids infectious disease and dust.
