Position Information
Join the Sonoma County Water Agency (Sonoma Water) as an Electrician/Instrumentation Technician.
Electrician/Instrumentation Technicians install, maintain, calibrate, repair, and replace digital and analog electrical equipment, machinery, switchgear, controllers, and associated equipment and instrumentation used in water supply and wastewater treatment facilities. This position will assist with preventive and corrective maintenance tasks as needed throughout the Sonoma Water service area.

The ideal candidate will:

- Possess significant experience performing electrical and instrumentation work for public utilities or in related industries
- Be proficient in maintaining, troubleshooting, and repairing complex processes and systems
- Be knowledgeable about, and able to practically apply, electrical safe-work practices
- Have a demonstrated ability to work as part of a team of experienced professionals
- Be available to work as required to keep critical water and wastewater systems operational on a nearly continuous basis

About Sonoma Water

Sonoma Water is a special district formed by the California State Legislature in 1949 and is responsible for providing a safe and reliable water supply to its customers in Sonoma and Marin counties. Sonoma Water also maintains 75 miles of flood control channels and provides sanitationservices. Employing approximately 230 employees, Sonoma Water consists of five divisionsincluding Engineering and Resource Planning, Environmental Resources and Public Affairs, Water/Wastewater Operations, Maintenance, and Administrative Services. Sonoma Watersupports the concept of environmental sustainability, focusing on renewable power sources, andstrives to be a leader in its water conservation and fishery restoration programs.

Minimum Qualifications
Education: Any combination of education and/or training which would provide an opportunity to acquire the knowledge and abilities listed. Normally, completion of an academic or vocation program leading to an associate degree in electronic technology would provide such opportunity.

Experience: Normally, two years of experience in installing, maintaining, repairing, calibrating, and replacing electrical equipment and machinery.

License: Possession of a valid driver's license at the appropriate level including special endorsements, as required by the State of California, may be required depending upon assignment to perform the essential job functions of the position.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Considerable knowledge of: the principles, methods, tools and equipment used in installing, maintaining, calibrating, repairing and replacing electrical equipment, machinery and related equipment; electronic and electric theory, specifically as it relates to modern electronic equipment; safety and preventative maintenance requirements for electronic and electrical equipment; the use of electric and electronic testing equipment; occupational safety standards, practices and procedures required by federal, state and related laws related to electronic equipment maintenance.

Ability to: install, maintain, calibrate, repair and replace electronic and electrical equipment; interpret and work from technical sketches, drawings and diagrams for electrical, and electronic equipment and machinery; establish and maintain effective working relations with County employees and the public; prepare written policies and procedures; train other employees; perform arithmetic calculations as required by the job.

The selection procedure will consist of the following examination:

An Application & Supplemental Questionnaire Appraisal Examination (weight 100%) will be conducted to evaluate each applicant's application and supplemental questionnaire for satisfaction of minimum qualifications (pass/not pass); and for educational coursework, training, experience, knowledge, and abilities which relate to this position. Each applicant will be evaluated based on the following criteria:
- Relevance of work history, related experience, and achieved level of education and/or training as described in the application and responses to the supplemental questions.

Candidates demonstrating possession of the minimum qualifications will be placed on an employment list in order of most qualified to least qualified based on the achieved score received in the Application & Supplemental Questionnaire Appraisal Examination. Scores may be adjusted based on such factors as number of candidates, anticipated vacancies, past practice, and natural breaks in the scores achieved by this group of candidates.
