The Medical Scribe will spend the entire shift working directly with the assigned provider. The Medical Scribe will shadow the assigned provider throughout the shift and patient encounters; documenting the initial history and physical (including current medications, allergies and patient’s primary care provider); re-evaluations; consultations and completing discharge paperwork (including work/school notes). The Medical Scribes also manage the re-evaluation process notifying the physician as diagnostic studies are resulted and will be trained on how to page consultants and how to obtain old EKGs, fill out the basic medical forms (i.e. consent forms, blood requisition forms, pelvic ultrasound forms, clinic referral forms, outside radiology over-read forms, outside records request form).
Medical Scribes will not serve as patient care technicians; as employees with direct patient care require additional training (i.e. scribes only serve the purpose of improving documentation efficiency, not gathering suture supplies, splinting supplies, moving patients for pelvic exams, etc.). The Medical Scribes will not serve as Health Unit Coordinators (HUC); the purpose of the scribe is to assist with documentation.
The selected candidate(s) must agree to work a minimum of 16 hours/week. Holiday coverage will be required for these position(s).
This recruitment is seeking pre-health students, with basic anatomical knowledge, who are looking for an opportunity to gain clinical experience.
Education and ExperienceDemonstrated possession of the competencies necessary to perform the work. Some positions may require registration as a Nurse Aide by the North Carolina Board of Nursing or certification through the American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA.)
Special Physical and Mental RequirementsPosition requires remaining standing for long periods of time and maintaining concentration.
