The Department of Public Health'sOffice of Violence Prevention (OVP) is seeking a well-qualified individual to fill the position ofEpidemiologist.

The position of Epidemiologist will work with other research staff to collect, manage, and analyze violence-related data from a wide variety of sources and will provide support for the development of an open data portal to ensure violence-related data are broadly disseminated to partners and communities throughout Los Angeles County.

Essential Job Functions

- Design and development of epidemiologic studies, including literature searches on various epidemiologic and public health topics.
- Data management, such as drafting codebooks, creating sub-datasets, and quality control of data accuracy and quality
- Data analyses with special focus on mortality pattern and life expectancy calculations, additional analyses may range from descriptive statistics to advanced modeling
- Present epidemiological research data and findings to audience of assorted backgrounds
- Geocode geographic data and generate maps to display spatial variations in health indicator estimates
- Interpret data and helping data users understand the data.
- Prepare reports or participate as co-author in peer-review journal article publication and present research findings at professional meetings
- Respond to data requests from other DPH programs and external agencies
- Assist in training and hiring of junior epidemiology staff
- Other duties as assigned


Requirements
Must currently be a permanent Los AngelesCountyemployee who has passed their initial probationary period andcurrently holds the payroll title ofEpidemiologist.

DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS:


- Experience working with violence-related data
- Experience in using Statistical Analysis Software (SAS)
- Experience in using ArcGIS
- Experience in qualitative research
- Experience conducting program/project evaluations
- Experience creating data visualizations
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
