This is a team-based position requiring working with other laboratory personnel and various supporting functions. Some daily schedule variations of start and end times, and occasional overtime work including weekends and off shift support will be necessary.

This position is targeted at an individual who is mechanically astute.  The successful candidate must be able to take a hands-on approach to laboratory work and execute assignments under direction from the lead laboratory engineer.  Beneficial skill sets include, mechanical troubleshooting/repair experience, basic understanding of hydraulic/pneumatic systems/components, machine shop experience, photography and use of photo imaging software, and chemical laboratory testing experience.

The successful candidates will have:

Experience with specimen preparation utilizing standard metallographic equipment such as cut-off saws, mounting presses, automatic polishers, and metallographs having digital image capturing and image analysis capabilities.  In addition, responsibilities will include general photographic documentation by use of digital cameras; dimensional analysis by use of micrometers and calipers, along with height, depth, groove, and radius gages; construction of test set-ups for component functional testing; and component disassembly by tools such as band saw, cut-off saws, drill, lathe, mill, etc.  Problem solving skills are essential and the individual must be able to collect and organize the test information gathered in verbal and written form to the lead engineer, stakeholders, and management. 

This position must meet Export Control compliance requirements, therefore a 'US Person' as defined by 22 C.F.R. 120.15 is required.

Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/Experience):


- Associate degree in a related discipline and 1 or more years of related experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Experience in metallographic specimen preparation.
- Experience with metallographs having digital image capturing and image analysis.
- Experience with dimensional analysis by use of micrometers and calipers.

Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience):


- Experience with mechanical troubleshooting and repair.
- Experience with hydraulic and pneumatic components and systems.
- Machine shop experience.
- Experience with test set-ups for component functional testing.

Relocation:

This position is located in a location that does not offer relocation.  Candidates must live in the immediate area or relocate at their own expense.
