Description of Duties/Essential Functions
This position serves as working supervisor and is responsible for the field operation of specialized union construction crews involved in the maintenance, construction and reconstruction of highways and their related facilities which require extensive overnight travel in a statewide basis.


Minimum Requirements
Requires knowledge, skill and mental development equivalent to completion of four years of high school. Requires two years of experience on highway construction work. Requires working knowledge in the use of construction materials and equipment, ability to plan, lay out and supervise work of a construction crew; ability to supervise and direct efficient and economic construction work and in the use of workers, materials and equipment; ability to estimate material requirements for work; ability to implement directions and make decisions with minimal supervision. Requires capability to read and interpret blueprints, equipment repair books and factory specifications. Requires mechanical knowledge to supervise the complete overhaul of specialized construction equipment and tools. Requires ability to travel statewide on an extensive basis. Ensures compliance with departmental safety code.

**This position is based in Sangamon County; however, requires the ability to travel statewide on an extensive basis. This position works in Sangamon County during the winter months but will be assigned projects throughout the state during construction season.

*GROUP B – titles are closed exams. Applications for a Group B closed exam will be maintained until an agency requests that the test be administered or for a maximum of one year.
