Required Qualifications (as evidenced by an attached resume):

One (1) year of full time experience in a biomedical research laboratory environment.

Preferred Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree (foreign equivalent or higher degree) in biology, pre-med, or a life science/biomedical related field. Experience handling experimental tissues for pathological analysis.

Brief Description of Duties:

The Department of Pathology at Stony Brook University seeks a full-time research technician who will work to support the research directed by Dr. Kenneth Shroyer. The candidate will be performing routine laboratory techniques of preparing, processing and staining specimens and will work with other members of the research team including medical residents who are doing research in the lab.

Prepare sections of human and mouse microscopic examination, using techniques to section, stain, and mount tissue for research studies.

Monitor machines performing automated processing.

Assist residents, medical students and other research personnel in routine laboratory procedures.

Assist in mouse handling as needed - Attend weekly, individual, and lab meetings.

Accurately report, annotate, maintain and store records for lab personnel including PIs and members of the lab responsible for experiments.

Perform routine laboratory equipment maintenance.

Other duties as assigned.
