JOB DESCRIPTION:Position Summary
The HVAC Controls Technician is an integral part of the Facilities Operations Team, and is primarily responsible for building heating, ventilation, air conditioning equipment systems and HVAC-R building automation controls.
The primary function of the HVAC Controls Technician is to provide skilled work in diagnostic testing, troubleshooting, and performing repairs and maintenance of mechanical equipment in support of R&D laboratories and multiple office buildings that make up the Abbott site in Alameda.
The HVAC Controls Technician will perform journey level mechanical work that may include installation, operation, preventive and corrective maintenance of chillers, refrigeration units, condensers, evaporators air handling units, variable air volume systems, exhaust systems, hot-water boilers, water pumps, heating coils, electrical control circuits, building automation control systems (mechanical and pneumatic).
The successful candidate will conduct routine inspections, identify and make necessary repairs, perform scheduled preventative maintenance, address comfort complaint issues and be the point contact for outsourced repair services as necessary. Additional desired skill sets include the ability to perform or asses minor plumbing, electrical, and various other mechanical repairs in an office or laboratory environment. Laboratory equipment services may include the repair of equipment such as refrigerators & freezer units, low temperature refrigeration systems, environmental chambers, incubators, air dryers, dehumidifiers and stability chambers.
Good judgment and exceptional communications skills (verbal and written) is necessary in matters pertaining to customer satisfaction and quality of services performed. This position requires a high level of initiative, effort, and commitment towards completing assignments efficiently under minimal supervision.
- The HVAC Controls Technician will maintain / repair HVAC systems in the facility. Currently site has 4 buildings. All are offices, with some wet labs & mechanical/electrical labs; 80% of site is office environment.
- Customer service focus is important (responsive to requests and informative as to what can be and was done)
- Work with external contractors who come on site to repair other systems. This role will coordinate external contractors and escort them to the area where they need to do work.
- May be asked to perform other duties related to maintenance of mechanical systems
- Will work closely with Facilities Tech & Facility Manager in a team environment.
- Must have a high school diploma or equivalent.
- Minimum of 2 years of experience in building automation controls is required (experience with Andover is a plus)
- Preferably have HVAC Control Certification
- Electrical qualifications are a plus
