Job Description
Our Core Technology organization works with all our divisions to conceptualize, develop and produce fluoropolymer intermediates and composites for incorporation into Gore Products. We are looking for a Technologist to join our Composites Center of Excellence (COE) team in Elkton, Maryland.

Responsibilities include:
Performing use-inspired research, guided by hypotheses
Identifying, communicating and acting upon gaps in our materials capability
Influencing the material selection decisions for new product development efforts
Developing advanced characterization techniques for composite materials
Performing hands-on prototyping of innovative technologies, new ideas and solutions
Qualifications
 
Required Job Qualifications:
Ph.D. in chemical engineering, mechanical engineering, polymer science, polymer physics, materials science, or a related field
Experience assessing a technology by identifying gaps and opportunities
Past participation in an immersive entrepreneurship training such as I-Corps™ or Lean LaunchPad ™ or equivalent experience
Demonstrated success in the creation of novel technology through use-inspired research
Proven:
Track record inventing new technology and capturing intellectual property
Success as a principal investigator (independently generating hypotheses to initiate and complete investigations at a quick pace)
Success working within an interdisciplinary team
Capable of explaining the behavior of materials using a balanced approach of empirical, computational and theoretical tools
Hands-on approach to research and results oriented
Skilled in experimental design and data analysis
Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to teach a technically diverse audience using formal and informal techniques
Willingness to sign confidentiality and non-competition agreements
Willingness to travel up to 10%
Desired Job Qualifications:
+3 years of post-educational work experience developing new materials
Experience:
Driving external collaboration on projects with universities, government labs or industry
With fluoropolymer-based product development
With polymer processing
Skilled in mechanics including principles of viscoelasticity and failure of materials
Working knowledge of a variety of polymer characterization techniques
