The objective of the project is to understand the journey of patient in Parkinson’s disease. The intern will conduct two database studies utilizing insurance claims and electronic medical records (EMR). The claims database study will determine health care utilization, including patient visits, diagnostic tests, and drugs prescribed, over a three-year period of time. The EMR will be utilized to determine test results and outcomes of interest.
These studies will expose the clinical experiences of Parkinson’s Disease patients as they traverse the medical care system and provides companion data for studies exploring patient reported outcomes.Mentoring will be provided by the Senior Director, Epidemiology. Study reports will be generated and delivered to the lead epidemiologist for the Parkinson’s Disease drug development program.
To participate in the Biogen Co-op Program, students must meet the following eligibility criteria:
- Legal authorization to work in the U.S.
- Grade point average of 3.2 or higher preferred
- At least 18 years of age prior to the scheduled start date
- Be currently enrolled in an accredited college or university
