The Release Management Engineer is a technical specialist within the Global Release Management team as part of CenturyLink's Managed Hosting and Cloud business. The primary responsibility for the Release Management Engineer is to plan, validate and execute Operating System patching and other approved maintenance in adherence with best practice Change and Release Management processes. The Release Management Engineer is part of a global team and will work closely with other team members across different regions as well as directly with customers and customer account teams. The Release Management Engineer is a technical specialist within the Global Release Management team. Summary of responsibilities:- Review, validate, approve and execute scheduled maintenance activities to support and maintain CenturyLink's customer environments following best practice Change Management and Request Fulfilment processes Deploy core operating system management and monitoring agent updates ( eg upgrade NetBackup Agent, McAfee VirusScan Enterprise, VMware Tools, Opsware Agents, HP Firmware/SUM) both manually and via automated deployment tools Communicate directly with customers, customer account teams and CenturyLink's internal Change and Release Management teams to ensure maintenance is coordinated, scheduled and executed in accordance with customer expectations Investigate, resolve and escalate issues that are identified during technical validation and execution in accordance with Incident Management processes Patch management and approval activities in Windows Server (WSUS) and/or Red Hat (RHN, RHSM) environments, to ensure consistent patch deployment across customer environments eg staged deployments across DEV/UAT/PROD environments Daily review of all open Release Management change requests to progress upfront technical validation and preparation tasks to ensure that all requests are technically assessed, approved and executed in line with customer requirements Provide technical guidance to DevOps teams by supporting script development, testing and triage of script failures Support Project Management teams on large scale software deployments across the managed environment Create and update Release Management technical work instructions and operational procedures to ensure consistent support of customer environments Skills and Experience - Minimum Requirements
The Release Management Engineer is ideally skilled across both Microsoft Windows Server and Red Hat Enterprise Linux operating systems, possessing a superior knowledge in one of these operating system technologies with a working knowledge of the other or a willingness to upskill. Minimum requirements as follows:- 2+ years' proven experience in a technical support or software implementation role working with Microsoft Windows Server Operating Systems (Windows 2008/2012/2016), ideally in an enterprise environment Experience of applying operating system security updates or patch management tools eg WSUS, SCCM, HPSA, RHN Working knowledge of Active Directory, DNS and Microsoft Networking Highly organized and able to work under pressure and time constraints Strong verbal and written communication skills Proactive and self-motivated Track record of learning new tools and technologies Skills and Experience - Preferred Requirements
