Benefits EligibleYesEligible for OvertimeNoPosition SummaryThe Houston Education Research Consortium (HERC) is a research-practice partnership between Rice University and several Houston-area school districts. HERC aims to improve the connection between education research and decision-making, with the ultimate goal of closing socioeconomic gaps in educational achievement and attainment in Houston.

HERC is seeking a full-time Jr. Research Analyst to aid in conducting various research projects in partnership with Houston-area school districts, and international research partners. The Jr. Research Analyst will assist with the development of research questions, data collection as needed, data analysis, and writing and presenting research findings. Student research assistants may be available when needed. The Jr. Research Analyst also will be expected to attend weekly staff and research team meetings. The selected candidate will serve as a representative of HERC and carry out the research agenda established by HERC and its partners.

Experience PreferredExperience working with school districts or research-practice partnerships; managing data and conducting quantitative and qualitative analyses, such as multilevel and casual modeling, and quasi-experimental methods. Past experience as a Student Research Assistant, Research Assistant or a Project Assistant is preferred.

License/Certification RequiredLicense/Certification PreferredSkills Required- Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
- Familiar with statistical software packages such as Stata, SAS, or R.

Skills PreferredInternal / External ContactsThe Jr. Research Analyst will work closely with the director, an associate director, and more senior research analysts and scientists. He/she will work with various university faculty and staff and may work with research staff at various school districts.

Physical DemandsMust be able to work for extended periods of time at a computer terminal.

Working ConditionsWeekend and evening work as needed. Occasional travel.

Essential Functions- Participates in designing and conducting research analyses according to the approved research agenda
- Assists in the development of research project plans and how it will be conducted
- Assists more senior staff in creating and carrying out strategies for executing projects
- Co-writes research briefs for the districts and manuscripts for publication
- Presents at meetings and conferences
- Assists on various HERC projects as assigned
