Jefferson Community College, Watertown, NY, part of the State University of New York (SUNY) System is accepting applications for a part-time (17.5 hours/week) Lab Assistant. The position is a provisional appointment. Work hours will include some day, evening, and weekend hours depending on the academic calendar. This position involves maintaining an inventory of and control over scientific laboratory supplies and equipment; assist in the preparation of experiment media and solutions and assists faculty members in setting up classroom demonstrations; keeps records and makes reports.
Necessary skills include knowledge of pertinent laboratory terminology, procedures, and equipment, working knowledge of elementary principles of chemistry and biology; working knowledge of preparation and dispensing of chemical solutions and receiving, storing, maintaining, and issuing chemical /biology lab supplies and equipment.
- Graduation from an accredited college with an associate's degree in biology, chemistry, lab tech, or related field; or
- Graduation from high school or possession of a high school equivalency diploma and two years of technical laboratory experience.
Required: Successful completion of a Civil Service Exam for permanent appointment.
