We're making a difference every day working for a safer, healthier, and more secure nation and world.MITRE is seeking a highly motivated and experienced individual to serve as Aegis Ashore Japan Lead Engineer for the Aegis Ballistic Missile Defense (BMD) element of the Missile Defense Agency (MDA). The MDA s mission is to develop, test, and field an integrated, layered, ballistic missile defense system (BMDS) to defend the United States, its deployed forces, allies, and friends against all ranges of enemy ballistic missiles in all phases of flight. Aegis BMD is the Naval component of the BMDS that is fielded on Aegis Destroyers (DDGs), Cruisers (CGs), and Aegis Ashore sites providing regional and homeland defense capabilities. This position provides a unique opportunity to work closely with MDA sponsors ensuring the Aegis BMD mission is successful and to influence new innovations in the field of C4I to enhance the BMD mission.Responsibilities include:Leverage SE expertise to tailor, alter and manage program systems engineering plan and develop / implement engineering strategy to achieve critical design milestone reviews (System Concept Review, System Requirements Review, System Design Reviews)Ensure AAJ performance and facility requirements trace to appropriate directive guidance, and provide clear measurable objectives to verify requirements through system designLeverage technical expertise to lead, assess, and evaluate feasibility studies (e.g Radar energy assessments), analysis of alternatives, and trade studies to address Japanese spectrum, operational environment (e.g. wind, seismic, geography), and specialty engineering needs (e.g. chemical/biological, High-Altitude Electromagnetic Pulse modifications) to deliver an integrated Aegis Combat System to Japan.Lead Aegis Ashore Japan Systems Engineering Activities, serve as on-site rep with Aegis Ashore Japan sponsorWork across BMDS elements on performance and interoperability opportunities/challenges to mission successDevelop collaborative strategies with the sponsorEnable sponsor success by aligning staff assignments with sponsor needsAbility to serve as staff member producing differentiated products that align contribute to sponsor outcomesWork closely across sponsor directorates leveraging knowledge and resources, ensuring consistency of effort, and fostering teamwork among the sponsor, Systems Engineering and Technical Assistance (SETA) staff, Federally Funded Research and Development Centers (FFRDCs), Other Government Agencies (OGAs) and Prime Contractor(s)Required Qualifications:Minimum of 5 years of BMDS (preferably in Aegis) experienceBasic understanding & application of Interoperability (Link-16)Skill in oral and written communication, and interpersonal skillsProficiency in Systems Engineering, Integration & RequirementsResearch and evaluating system engineering studies/strategiesExperience in costing, budgeting and staffing (MITRE Task and/or Project Management)Experience with Department of Defense (DoD) regulations, standards and specificationsPreferred Qualifications:Advanced degree in related technical field of studyExisting Secret ClearanceMITRE s workplace reflects our values.
