The purpose of the Maintenance Worker I will to complete a variety of tasks under the direction of the Street Supervisor in the construction, maintenance, and repair of city streets, sidewalks, public rights-of-way, storm water detention ponds and drainage systems. The Maintenance I must be in compliance with safety procedures and usage of safety equipment. Employee must be able to be scheduled for on-call rotation. Maintenance I will also assist with training newly hired employees.
Essential Duties & Required Qualifications
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
- Performs general maintenance for street, drainage and rights-of-ways.
- Prepares equipment, vehicles, and tools for work assignments.
- Ability to operate all machinery needed to perform assigned duties.
- Common knowledge of duties performed in construction and maintenance of streets and roadways.
- Apply crack seal to roadways.
- Assist in the removal of concrete, setting forms, typing steel, and finishing concrete.
- Repair guardrail and bridges.
- Assist in repairing storm drain pipe; inlets, etc.
- Remove debris and other obstructions from drainage right of way.
- Perform necessary mowing and trimming maintenance where assigned.
- Ability to work well with the public and fellow Co-workers at all times.
- Communicate effectively and courteously with the public and all other city employees in person, in writing, and by telephone.
- Ability to work outdoors in extreme heat or cold temperature swings and during inclement weather; exposed to dust, fumes, and loud noises.
- Knowledge and ability to set up secure work zones using cones and barricades
- Pick-up litter and debris, remove graffiti.

Required Education and/or Experience:
High School Graduation or G.E.D.; one year or less related experience or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Preferred Education and/or Experience:
Texas Commercial Driver License, (CDL), Class A with an air brake endorsement or the ability to obtain one within 6 months of employment.
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:
Texas commercial driver license class A or the ability to obtain one within 6 months of employment.

Equipment, Machines, Tools and Work Aids:
Ability to operate a dump truck, bucket lift truck, motor grader, backhoe, skid loader, roller, grader, gradall, and small hand tools, chainsaw, shovel, two-way radio, telephone, computer, measuring devices; ability to drive a vehicle to and from various work sites.
Steel-toed leather boots, steel-toed rubber boots, gloves, eye protection, head protection, safety vest, and ear protection.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand; walk; sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; talk or hear and taste or smell. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds and push, pull, drag up to 150 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
