Supervises and instructs mechanics and cleaners in the repair, cleaning and reconditioning of buses. Performs duties in a safe, efficient manner and in compliance with all applicable rules and safety procedures.
Responsibilities and Specific Duties
- Responsible for the supervision of mechanics and cleaners and for the daily repair, cleaning and reconditioning of buses.
- Supervises and instructs mechanics and cleaners in the repair, servicing and reconditioning of buses in assigned area.
- Provides technical assistance to personnel as necessary to assure quality and timely repairs.
- Coordinates upgrades, training and training schedule with Superintendent.
- Coordinates work flow from work area to work area.
- Responsible for all personnel and general administrative matters i.e., first step grievances, performance evaluations, disciplinary actions, payroll issues, etc.
- Maintains records of work performed and daily overtime, and absenteeism.
- Supervises maintenance and repair equipment, inspects tools and equipment for conditioning and proper use.
- Responsible for meeting equipment service demands in a timely manner.
- Ensures and maintains quality and safety standards.
- Researches pertinent bus performance information and analyzes data to determine bus down issues.
- Coordinates activities with Storeroom.
- Maintains yard control.
- Dispatches wreckers/T-Trucks for break down recovery and on street repairs.
- Keeps Superintendent informed on all matters of importance
- Promotes safety awareness and follows safety procedures in an effort to reduce or eliminate accidents.
- Performs other job-related duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications/ Requirements
High school diploma or equivalent. Additional vocational/training in heavy diesel mechanic and supplementary training in body repair, transmissions, welding, electrical and air conditioning preferred.
Minimum of five (5) years extensive diesel-powered bus maintenance experience including direct mechanical/journey experience; to include two (2) years lead/supervisory experience.
Good communications (written/verbal) and interpersonal skills. Good decision making and organizational skills. General knowledge and use of parts, books and maintenance manuals. Familiar with labor relations/union agreements and related procedures. Basic knowledge of personal computers and related software. A valid Texas Commercial Drivers License "B" endorsement is required for the job and must meet METRO's requirements regarding motor vehicle records. The ability to drive any Authority owned vehicle. Able to maintain or obtain additional certifications/licenses as required.
A Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) check is required prior to the placement of any individual in a position that requires the operation of a METRO revenue or non-revenue vehicle on behalf of METRO:
The Disqualifying Criteria is as follows:
- Invalid, suspended, or revoked driver's license
- Conviction of driving under the influence (DUI) or driving while intoxicated (DWI) within the preceding three (3) years
- 2 or more DUI or DWI convictions with no time limit.
- Any accumulation of suspensions of over 1 year in length within the last 3 years
