Cricket Valley Energy Center LLC has awarded Bechtel a contract to design and build the new, natural-gas-fired power plant, which will provide electricity for one million homes and create approximately 1,100 jobs at peak construction. The Cricket Valley Energy Center, a 1,100-megawatt (MW) combined-cycle plant to be completed in 2020, will have a low-impact design and will use advanced emissions-control technology.
Expected assignment duration is 13 months at the Cricket Valley Energy Center job site in Dover, NY. The project is a combined cycle power plant.
We are looking for a Mechanical Startup Engineer to plan, schedule, conduct, or coordinate detailed phases of a startup, operations/maintenance, including design reviews and all component/system testing.
Performs work which involves conventional practice but may include a variety of complex features such as conflicting requirements, unsuitability of conventional methods, or difficult coordination requirements.
May assume a lead role over other Startup engineers for specific tasks. May direct overall startup activities on specific assignments.
Prepare, award, and administer subcontracts for specialty contractors.
Train assigned personal and assist with their professional development.
Preparation of system testing and turnover documentation including scoped documents, test records, test procedures and other similar required documents.
Prepare system preoperational test procedures for assigned systems. Complete testing per Bechtel Corporate Standard Test and Commissioning Procedures (STCP) and Standard Work Process Procedures (SWPP), pre-op procedures and other specific procedures which may be required to be prepared in this position. Complete all test records, data sheets, etc. to fully document testing activities.
Coordinate with and provide direction to supplier Technical Assistants to complete commissioning of vendor supplied equipment. Monitor supplier TA activities to ensure proper charging of TA time.
Applies specialized knowledge to the solution of specific problems.
Uses advanced startup engineering techniques and modification and extension of theories, precepts, and practices of related sciences and disciplines.
Interprets new or special codes, standards, criteria and performance data related to specialty.
Provides technical input, counsel, and training as directed.
Performs field consulting services as required.
Bachelor’s Degree in engineering, construction management or related field with 6 years of experience in electrical; or in lieu of Bachelor’s degree 12 years of experience working in the power industry.
3 years experience in the utility scale power generation industry.
Must be able to walk at least 3 miles per day over uneven ground and be able to climb stair towers 75’ in height at least 6 times per day to access project equipment.
Must have the right to work and remain in the United States without sponsorship.
