What you’ll be doing...
As our Verizon Business Markets (VBM) Government Network Service Center (GNSC) Tier 2 technician, you will provide higher level technical support for Enterprise customers. The ideal candidate will be well versed in Cisco and Juniper technologies and possess expert level troubleshooting capability to aggressively drive service and chronic related issues toward a quick but quality resolution.
The role will also delve into embracing new technologies and acting as a Subject Matter Expert (SME) in support of network rollout and training of first level staff. Additionally the primary candidate will receive customer specific training toward certification of customer specific technology and act as an SME in this space.
Provide technical support for the customer’s network environment including but not limited to network incident identification, documentation, escalation and resolution.
Provide data network advanced technical support and direction to Tier1 level technicians in a Network Operation environment.
Network troubleshooting and configuring routers and switches (LAN/WAN/Wireless environment), apply an advanced understanding of the OSI model, including TCP/IP, client/server designs, routing protocols (including but not limited to OSPF, .EIGRP, BGP), LAN technologies (including but not limited to FDDI, Ethernet, Token Ring, Wireless, VLANs, NAT, ACLs, QoS), WAN technologies (including but not limited to Internet, MPLS, Frame-Relay, ISDN, private lines).
Execute Network change requests submitted by the Customer.
Provide chronic repeat offender analysis and support.

Although this position is scheduled for day shift (8am-5pm), individual must be willing and available to work other shifts in a 24X7 environment and on-call as needed.
What we’re looking for...
You have very strong technical skills and an ability to dig into the details to identify opportunities and solutions to root cause issues. Organization, reliability and time management skills come naturally to you, and you can troubleshoot highly technical issues and effectively explain complex details to non-technical customers. You are adept at utilizing a variety of tools at your disposal to solve problems and are resourceful in finding the most client-focused solutions.
You’ll need to have:
Bachelor’s degree or four or more years of work experience.
Three or more years of relevant work experience.
Experience with Network troubleshooting and configuring routers and switches (LAN/WAN/Wireless environment).
Knowledge of IPv4, IPv6, QoS, Multicast, MPLS, L3VPN, L2VPN, and Traffic Engineering using BGP and MPLS-TE.
Knowledge of IP Routing Protocols (ISIS, OSPF, BGP).
Knowledge and experience with major router platforms – Juniper and/or Cisco.
Knowledge of Ethernet Switching technologies and Protocols.
Willingness to work a flexible work schedule to include other shifts in a 24X7 environment and on-call as needed.
Even better if you have:
Cisco CCNA / CCNP / Juniper JNCIP-ENT certification.
Network management and performance analysis tool experience.
Knowledge of DNS, NTP, Firewalls and ACLs.
Worked in NOC environment operating under service level agreements.
Managed customer service requests.
Familiarity with IPv6.
Strong critical thinking, problem solving abilities, and decision-making skills.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills including capability to communicate complex information clearly and concisely.
Ability to lead people and manage technical discussions with a group of individuals in the industry with varying technical positions.
Ability to work well both independently and in diverse teams.
