What you’ll be doing...
As our Principal Member of Technical Staff (PMTS), you will be a SME and will oversee the engineering, planning, and deployment schedule as well as implementation and migration design support for the Online Charging Systems (OCS) suite of services nationally, including Prepaid, Usage Control, Account Group Share, Real Time Reporting, eSM, eCGS, D/R Routers, M2M, and SRPs. OCS is a multi-departmental national platform comprised of ~100+ network elements comprising both bare metal and virtualized components. The designs for OCS require expert level knowledge of the hardware, software and call flows. You will be responsible for the execution and implementation of feature designs, engineering support of the OCS network elements, OCS services, capacity and demand charts, and execution of the OCS POR (Plan of Record).
The PMTS will make key decisions as it pertains to the deployment plan and design for the OCS suite of services. You will provide direction on complex technical design issues and manage to resolution any variances identified. You will work independently, while keeping your management and project team fully aware of implementation schedule progress. The PMTS will be expected to be an example of engineering and operational excellence. You will provide mentoring to the other team members on networking and hardware design, and is expected to identify and bring to management’s attention areas of improvement as the deployment evolves. The engineer must be able to take high level requirements and translate them to an implementable design.
The PMTS is required for activities that will focus on Online Charging engineering and operations technologies which may include Case Handling / Software Upgrade support of OCS Family of products. As the OCS application become cloud-based and virtualized technologies, we are in need of a technical resource who is capable of collaborating and leading teams of vendors, developers, and internal stakeholders to ensure that the applications are efficiently engineered, operated and maintained by leveraging orchestration and automation.
You will work with developers, cloud infrastructure operations, and network operations to assist in defining, developing and implementing work products focused on tools for instantiation, testing, release management, scaling and production troubleshooting of vendor applications and Verizon call flows. Heavy focus on leveraging and driving technologies that improve efficiency through self-service, automation and orchestration. Will also be intimately involved in planning activities that include working with teams on roadmap of features, capabilities and capacity.
The Principal Member - Technical Staff will also be responsible for securing, managing and executing an annual Capital and Expense budget relative to the Plan of Record (POR) for all OCS applications. You will obtain vendor quotes and negotiate pricing for hardware/software/licenses/services, request approval for funding and set up project IDs for individual projects, generate purchase orders and coordinate delivery and implementation schedules, ensure that received items are processed in a timely manner to manage CIP and perform periodic reviews of project ID’s to sweep any overage out and reallocate funds as appropriate.
This position will also entail a component of centralized engineering and coordination for the Director team as a whole. Candidate will be required to effectively collaborate with and coordinate across several Manager Teams internal to the Director Organization as well as Finance, Technical Development, Headquarter Planning, Maintenance Engineering and other external teams to work on centralized tasks and projects that may include the following:
Perform as a centralized Point of Contact on budget related items for the Director team. Coordinate with Manager Teams and Finance to provide Director-level rollup of Capital and Expense item planning and ensure that monthly budget targets and timelines are met.
What we’re looking for...
You’ll need to have:
Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or Computer Science, or four or more years of work experience.
Six or more years of relevant work experience.
Experience with Systems Engineering, Design and Testing.
Knowledge of Online Charging architecture, concepts and network flows for voice, messaging and data calls.
Experience with 3GPP and 3GPP2 standards and protocols,
