Who we’re looking for

Toyota’s Indirect Procurement department is looking
for a Packaging Buyer. The primary responsibilities of this role are developing
sourcing strategies, conducting sourcing events and performing cost analysis to
ensure Toyota maintains a sustainable, competitive advantage through its North
American supply chain.


Reporting to the Indirect
Procurement Manager, the person in this role will support Indirect Procurement’s
sourcing and cost management of returnable packaging to assure that the product
is delivered and paid in a timely manner.  

What you’ll be doing


This position is in a fast-paced
work environment requiring strong work ethic, flexibility, and excellent
communication skills.  The person
selected will be working closely with and supporting Toyota manufacturing
plants (NAMCs) in the development of sourcing strategies to create a supply
base optimization focused on quality, capacity and a sustainable cost
structure.  The position will be
responsible for onboarding, educating and developing prospective suppliers in
the principles of the "Toyota Way."

They will also be corresponding with
NAMCs and Suppliers to assure proper and timely payment for supplier packaging
services provided to Toyota.  Activities
will include problem solving involving multiple parties including NAMCs,
Suppliers, Toyota IS, Toyota Accounting, and Toyota Packaging.


Cost analysis

- Cost reduction through competitive
benchmarking of detailed cost elements

- Detailed analysis of cost variances,
on invoices and quotes 


- Determination of a competitive,
reasonable price resulting in a purchase order

- Establishment of cost standards to
reach a consistent, efficient approach to pricing

- Annual price negotiations based on
each supplier's cost improvements

Quality Management

- Embedding strict quality metrics in
sourcing decisions to maintain industry leadership

- Managing the resolution of any
quality issues that may arise

- The ongoing management of the
relationship with suppliers to ensure optimal performance of both the

- supplier and the rest of the supply

- Mediation of supplier issues where

 What you bring

- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Business, Economics, Finance, Procurement or Supply Chain Management or equivalent professional work experience

- Previous procurement experience or professional co-op/internship preferred

- Proven track record in problem solving at work

- Excellent communication skills

- Advanced skills in Microsoft Excel and Access  

Added bonus if you have

- Experience working with a Tier 1 supplier or Automotive OEM

- Packaging procurement experience
