Description of Duties/Essential Functions
Under general direction of the Assistant Medical Director, serves as a staff psychiatrist at the Alton Mental Health Center providing services to patients living in the Forensic Units who have been deemed to be Not Guilty by Reason of Insanity(NGRI) or Unfit to Stand Trail (UST). Conducts examinations, makes diagnosis and treats patients. Serves as a member of thetreatment team. Answers calls for emergencies. Performs and writes psychiatric evaluations. Evaluates, prepares and attends court testimony.
Requires an Illinois license to practice medicine and American Board Certification in the job related medical specialty of psychiatry or rehabilitation medicine. Requires thorough knowledge of the field of psychiatry. Requires ability to evaluate the quality of specialized medical care and treatment and coordinate medical services with other professional disciplines and supportive personnel. Requires ability to conduct psychological exams of patients. Requires physical ability to access all areas of the hospital. Requires ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing. Requires ability to identify most appropriate positive treatment regime and carry out that treatment in accordance with best practice and behavior modification.
