RESEARCHAREA: Mechanism and modulation of pre-mRNASplicing


PostdoctoralFellow in the Zhao Laboratory

The laboratory of Dr. RuiZhao motivated, independent,creative entry level post-doctoral researcher to join mylaboratory at the University of Colorado School of Medicine. Mylab is interested in understanding the molecular mechanism of pre-mRNAsplicing and its role in disease processes, using a combination of structural(cryoEM and crystallography), biochemical, molecular biology, and cell biologyapproaches.

Candidates will be expected to plan and execute independent work, writeand submit fellowship applications, assist in the writing and publication ofexperimental results, and contribute positively towards the atmosphere andculture of the lab.

Specific PositionDuties with Percentages of Time

80%The postdoc candidate can choose to focus on any one or more ofthe following projects depending on his/her interest and expertise:

Structural studies of spliceosome and related proteins/RNAs usingcryoEM and crystallography;

Functional studies of spliceosomal proteins or RNAs and splicingmechanism using molecular biology, biochemistry, and cell biology approaches.

20%The candidate will also assist in the preparation ofmanuscripts to publish their work, the preparation of grant applications, bothinternal and external, and the preparation of scientific data for presentationat various meetings and conferences. Thecandidate will also mentor junior scientists in the lab in their scientificdevelopment.


Salary andBenefits:

The hiring salary isnegotiable and commensurate with skills and experience. This position is not eligible for overtimecompensation. We are seeking an entry level postdoc (levels 0-1 per NIH Guidelines).

QualificationsQualifications
The successful candidate is expected to be highlymotivated, have ample scientific curiosity, have strong interpersonal skills,and be able to contribute in a positive manner to the collegial atmosphere ofthe laboratory and the department. Thecandidate will be expected to direct independent research, mentor more juniorlab members, and apply for independent fellowship funding.

Minimum requirements:
- PhD in biology-related field
- Strong record of productivity as evidenced bypeer-reviewed publications in internationally recognized English languagejournals
- Excellent communication skills in the Englishlanguage
- Experience in molecular biology, cell culture, andbiochemical techniques
- Experience in structural biology is a plus but notrequired
