Present Position NumberF0076WRole TitlePostdoctoral Research AssociatePosition TitlePostdoctoral Research AssociatePosition SummaryTwo-year residential postdoctoral fellowship in a history-related field to contribute to the collaborative development of new site interpretation at James Monroe’s Highland, in Albemarle County, Virginia. A significant portion of the position’s responsibilities include the incorporation of narratives of slavery and the experiences of a descendant community of Highland.

Salary is $50,000/yr.

Required QualificationsMust have completed PhD by the time of appointment

Must have completed the PhD no more than three years prior to position start date.

Must have experience in some form of public history, such as the development of public programs or exhibitions, community-engaged research, or non-traditional teaching.

Must have demonstrated research experience in an area related to U.S. history 1790-1830, with some expertise in American slavery.

Preferred QualificationsContent creation for museum exhibitions.

Research in African-American history.

Expertise in conducting genealogy, especially with African-American families.

A broad understanding of trends in U.S. political, economic, and social history of the period 1790-1830.
