80% Arms is looking for a highly motivated and experienced product design engineer.


JOB SUMMARY:

The Product Design Engineer will be responsible for all engineering aspects related to the design and development of firearms products.
This will include R&D, concept design, highly complex engineering analysis (DFM/DFA), problem solving, product improvement, production process improvement, product testing, and project management.


ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:


•Responsible for all engineering aspects related to the design and development of firearm products.
This will include R&D, concept design, highly complex engineering analysis (DFM/DFA), problem solving, product improvement, production process improvement, product testing, and project management.


•Manage new products from conception to production to ensure high quality, competitive costs, and efficient production


•Ensure production schedules for new products are well-established


•Utilize CAD and CAE software to create product drawings and prototypes, test prototypes, and analyze data gathered from testing


•Design new products, components, and mechanisms


•Utilize Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) to create ideal tolerances for complex parts and assemblies


•Present regular progress reports to upper management


•Investigate and introduce product improvements (quality, manufacturability, cost, performance, etc.)


•Effectively research and analyze usage of technologies and innovative materials


•Collaborate with manufacturing engineer, production personnel, marketing team, and operations team


•Assist with other ad hoc projects and requests


•Develop efficient and cost-effective production improvements


•Perform other duties as assigned


SKILLS / ABILITIES:


•Expert in innovation for manufacturing


•Knowledge of firearms design and manufacturing methods a plus


•Strong aptitude for solving complex technical problems


•Familiar with and proficient in Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T), DFM/DFA, and FEM analysis


•Expert in computer skills and programs (CAD, HSM Works, Solidworks, Microsoft Office, Excel, PC)


•Advanced skills for engineering drawing and drafting


•Understanding of Six Sigma and Lean Manufacturing


•High level of technical comprehension in metal removal process


•Ability to work independently and self-manage in a fast-paced environment


•Excellent leaderships skills and ability to collaborate with other employees


•Excellent written and oral communication

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

Work environment is combination of manufacturing floor and team office.
Position requires the ability and skill to evaluate and test various firearms and firearms related components.
Requires the ability to lift 40 lbs.
Position may require sitting or standing for extended periods of time.


EDUCATION / QUALIFICATIONS:


•Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering


•Minimum 5 years mechanical experience in a metal manufacturing environment required


•Experience in 3D solid design in CAD


•Experience in firearms design and manufacturing methods a plus
