Description of Duties/Essential Functions
This Project Consultant will oversee the transition of Choate's current system of coal-fired power generating electricity and steam heat to a system that is supplied its electricity via the existing grid and simultaneously changing the coal-fired heating system to natural gas used to generate steam-heat ensuring no interruption to critical systems and locations that would jeopardize the health and safety of residents and staff alike. The consultant will: 1) coordinate efforts between the facility and the contractors to avoid any and all interruption of service to the facility; 2) evaluate, then oversee the removal of unnecessary machinery; 3) oversee the integration of back-up electrical systems; 4) guide the development of the energy management system; 5) provide the Facility Director with regular updates pursuant to his/her direction; and 6) develop training related to operating and maintaining both the new power grid and the adaptations for the natural gas system to provide steam heat. The Project Consultant will ensure the facility remains in compliance with the life Safety Code, Illinois Department of Public Health (IDPH) and Joint Commission on the Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations (JCAHO) standards and regulations during the transition process.


Minimum Requirements
Requires a High School Diploma or G.E.D. and at least 30 years of work within the coal-fired elective and steam heat generation industry. Requires extensive knowledge of and ability to identify issues associated with transitioning from coal-fired systems to the electrical grid; ability to coordinate and communicate across multiple state agencies, regulatory bodies, state staff and contractors. Requires extensive working knowledge of Choate's current energy system and machinery; and of the current back-up energy systems in place at Choate.
