Description

Alfred University seeks a new Provost/Vice President of Academic Affairs (VPAA) to join the president and community in leading this highly successful, private comprehensive, Phi Beta Kappa, doctoral granting university into the future.

A coeducational institution since its inception in 1836, Alfred University has a socially progressive history of commitment to equal access for students from all backgrounds to its distinct academic programs. Today, Alfred’s diverse student body includes approximately 1,900 undergraduate and 350 graduate full-time students from 43 states and 16 countries at its beautiful campus in western New York and an additional 830 students enrolled at degree-completion programs throughout the state and in the NY-metro area.

Alfred University offers a total academic immersion experience to its students with a typical student to faculty ratio of 13:1 across 47 undergraduate majors and programs with an average class size of 18. Its 163 full-time and 45 part-time faculty form a vibrant intellectual community where students may also pursue advanced degrees in masters' and doctoral programs, many of which are highly ranked and internationally recognized. Alfred is comprised of the College of Business, College of Liberal Arts & Sciences, School of Graduate & Continuing Studies, the Performing Arts Division, the Kazuo Inamori School of Engineering and the School of Art & Design. The Schools of Engineering and Art & Design are statutory colleges of the State of New York. The Provost/VPAA joins Alfred University at an exciting juncture as its five-year strategic plan is getting underway and a capital campaign is on the horizon. The Provost/VPAA will provide critical leadership during this period through innovation, strategic direction, oversight, coordination and implementation for all colleges, schools, divisions, programs and services in the Academic Affairs Division. The Provost/VPAA reports directly to the president of the university and is a member of both the Cabinet and the Executive Council.

The next Provost/VPAA will work collaboratively across the university to develop and implement an "outside of ordinary" vision and strategy for academic excellence and innovation. The university seeks candidates with enthusiasm and broad knowledge about the role and purpose of higher education, a passion for student success and faculty engagement, and the leadership and administrative experience to advance successfully the mission of the institution through strategic planning and execution, resource alignment, assessment and collaboration. A terminal degree and qualifications for tenure at the rank of full professor in one of the university’s departments are required.
