In collaboration with the patient, the patient's family andother members of the health care team, the clinical RN assesses, plans,implements, evaluates, delegates and coordinates treatment plans and the planof care.Core competencies will be assessed primarily onthe following patient population(s) served: Acute medical/surgical care ofdiseases and conditions including but not limited to: cardiovascular (cardiacmedical only) pulmonary, neuro, GI, GU, skeletal/muscular, renal, orthoconditions and diseases including but not limited to: AMI, CAD, PVD, CVA/TIA,COPD, CHF, shock, renal failure, metabolic disorders, etc.The Neuroscience RN will Performdirect patient care within the scope of the Registered Nurse Practice Act withemphasis on the neuroscience service lineDemonstratesknowledge and application of the nursing process for Neuroscience patientsof appropriate ages in each assigned areas; i.e.
craniotomies, pituitarysurgical patients, ischemic stroke classification, seizure disorders, VPshunts, cervical and lumber surgeries, and cardiovascular arrhythmiasand/or disease/disorders.Assesses andmonitors and recognizes changes in the patient's behavioral, neurologicaland physiological status; takes appropriate action based on assessment.Utilizesprofessional skills and judgment in delivering and/or delegating care forpatients.Assists with unitemployee process activities, including orientation, professionaldevelopment.Provides for theprocessing of patients transitions thru department, and movement of patientsto other levels of care; i.e.
rehab.Assists in thePerformance Improvement activities of the department, such as pain,adaptation, mobility, and outcomes.Educates thepatient/family based on individual needs.
Will need 10 hours of strokeeducation per year.Provides andensures patient safety at all times.Specializes in thecare of patients with biopsychosocial alteration due to nervous systemdysfunction.Other duties asassigned within scope and practice of licensure.Use therapeutic communication in dailypracticeMaintain a safe and therapeuticneurological environmentImplement and direct care, using thenursing process with emphasis on the needs of individual nervous systemdisorder patientsProvide expert neurological nursingcare according to Program policies, protocols, guidelines and order setsParticipate in daily patient roundsto ensure optimal inpatient care through adherence to Program policies,and facilitate post hospital care coordinationEvaluate the effectiveness of the nursingprocessProvide emotional support of the patientand significant others to make informed choices regarding health careDelegate tasks to the appropriatecaregiverParticipate in neuroscience departmentspecific initiatives and process improvementPromote a supportive NeurologicalenvironmentProvide supervision of new employees,patient care assistant, vocational nurses, nurse technicians, studentnurses and/or nurse externsMaintain high quality (age specific) carefor adolescent, adult and geriatric patients as assignedSupport the mission, vision and values ofthe organization Qualifications Qualifications: Graduateof an accredited school of professional nursing Currentlicense by the Board of Nurse Examiners for the State of Texas Preferredexperience as RN in Critical Care, Med-Surg, Telemetry, and Neurology CurrentLicensure by the State of Texas CurrentCPR certification, ACLSrequired or within a minimum of 6 months of employment.
