Job SummaryThe Department of Plant and Soil Sciences in the College of Agriculture, Food, and the Environment seeks a collaborative and engaging Field Research Manager for the tobacco and hemp agronomic research and tobacco breeding programs. Duties include over site of greenhouse production of transplants including the execution of specific research protocols aimed at improving the quality of transplants produced, management of multiple field trials, maintenance of research supplies inventory and field equipment, data collection and entry, and supervision of seasonal student workers. Working with the program PI the employee will prioritize field tasks including soil preparation, planting, weeding, topping, harvesting, and post-harvest processing. The employee will be expected to be able to read and execute specific research protocols to include the application of individual treatments in the field and the collection of data as directed. Responsibilities include insuring that all farm safety and pesticide handling and application protocols are being followed.

Skills / Knowledge / AbilitiesCurrent skills should include knowledge and experience in the operation, calibration, and maintenance of common farm machinery including but not limited to tractors, mowers, planters and sprayers; ability to prioritize and organize multiple tasks to maintain efficient operations; and excellent interpersonal skills are expected as this job requires communication and collaboration with students, staff, and faculty.

Does this position have supervisory responsibilities? YesPreferred Education/ExperienceHave or obtain a category 10 Pesticide Applicators License; experience with farm equipment, Excel, MS Word, Powerpoint, SAS and Driver’s license preferred.
