The student workers will assist with the preservation, conservation, and repair of materials from Joyner Library’s General Circulating Collections, which would include books, pamphlets, maps and other items.

Duties also include but are not limited to:
- Repairing damaged books and papers
- Creating enclosures
- Assisting with preparation of materials for in-house repair
- Organizing, sorting, and cleaning of tools, equipment and materials such as books, pamphlets and maps
- Assisting with commercial bindery process
- Other duties as assigned.

You will be taught the tasks you need to do for the job.

This is a Monday through Friday position and the Pres/Con lab is open 9 am to 5 pm.

No evenings or weekends are required or available.


Superior manual dexterity and patience. Must possess the ability to follow detailed instructions and accuracy in recording information. This position may involve working with hazardous chemicals such as toluene and acetone so closed toe shoes and long pants may be required on the job.

For the safety of the applicant, staff, materials preserved and the tools and equipment utilized, all applicants MUST pass a dexterity assessment. Once hired, the student must pass a 20 question multiple choice safety test required by ECU Environmental Health & Safety

Students must be enrolled in classes at ECU for Spring 2020.

Preferred (Majors, Experience, GPA, etc.)Ability to read music, cursive writing, and distinguish different colors is helpful but not required. An interest or background in Anthropology, Art, Chemistry, History, Maritime, Museology, Librarianship or Photography is beneficial but not required.
