Job Description Summary
Supervise, coordinate, and administer operations, including maintenance, repair, renovations, housekeeping, safety and security in assigned buildings, and surrounding grounds, with the objective of insuring optimum service delivery in an existing science research and academic facility and a to be constructed energy science and technology building.
The successful candidate will serve as the liaison between building occupants and all University Departments and outside vendors responsible for, or having to do with, building operations. This includes supervising, coordinating, and administering operations, including maintenance, repair, renovations, housekeeping, safety and security in assigned buildings, and surrounding grounds, with the objective of insuring optimum service delivery. Participate in all capital and small projects in assigned buildings as the operational representative. Troubleshoot problems, recommend and implement solutions to problems and emergencies. Will provide functional supervision to Service Mechanic and direct supervision to assigned Building Services Assistant or Assistant Building Administrator. Monitors Housekeeping supervision and partner with them to achieve highest level of service possible. Conduct weekly quality assurance housekeeping tours and input data from those tours into the QA app provided. Prioritize building needs and communicate those priorities with our service providers. Coordinate utility shut downs and emergency drills. Coordinate special events. Supervise and occasionally execute shipping and receiving functions. Maintain on-call status in case of utility shut downs, emergencies, service requests, or investigations in assigned buildings. Communicate status of repairs, interruptions to utility service, and impacts of renovation and construction to end users and work collaboratively with them to execute the deliverable in a reasonable time period with the least disruption possible.
Associates degree and 5 years of experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience. Experience in an academic setting is preferred. Must demonstrate an ability to successfully communicate with a very diverse population in a demanding atmosphere of competing priorities while achieving the best possible outcome for the customer and the mission. Must be diplomatic and tactful when communicating, especially when sensitive or adversarial situations arise. Be able to exhibit good judgement and work independently. Experience managing the facilities and/or operations for a science-based academic and research facility. Computer experience preferred, including word processing, spreadsheets, databases, calendars, and web-based ticketing systems. Demonstrated understanding of the technical aspect of planning for operating and maintaining mechanical, plumbing, electrical, and structural systems, as well as housekeeping services for large and complex buildings. Must possess excellent written and verbal communication skills. Must have the ability to supervise, develop, coordinate, work cooperatively, and instruct others. When direct authority is absent, the ability to influence others towards satisfying the mission is preferred. Must be able to accurately, promptly, calmly and professionally attend to problems that arise, and then follow up as needed. Ability to learn the proper handling of hazardous and/or infectious waste. Must be highly organized and able to prioritize work. Valid driver’s license is required.
