Senior Director, News Production Engineering

NBC News Production Engineering is a technical group that spans all production areas across NBC News. The group has sole responsibility for all technical systems used for editing production at 30 Rockefeller Plaza NY and 7 news bureaus. This department is responsible for the technical planning, design, build out, & support across all editing production systems and digital workflows.
The Senior Director, News Production Engineering will be responsible for overseeing front line sustainability for all NBC News production systems. Candidate must have minimum 10 years experience in managing a technical staff with an in depth understanding of technologies across the span of five principal areas, archives, edit, playback, digital workflows & newsroom systems. This position will report to the CTO, Vice President News Production and Innovation.
The Senior Director, News Production Engineering must be adept at building relationships with all technical & operational areas across NBC Universal, notably the NBC News Field Operations & Engineering team. Managing a dynamic environment, which will incorporate management of overtime, show specific technical requirements, project deliverables and labor agreement obligations for represented or contract personnel.
Implementation of standards, controls, processes and technologies that ensure a high degree of availability and reliability for the production system environments.
Work closely with all key vendors by monitoring performance, provide feedback, champion new projects, and define or approve/disapprove change control processes.
Manage a team that is capable of providing *best in class* 24/7 support for NBC News production.
Will be required to measure effectiveness, and efficiency across production systems.
• Candidate must have minimum of 10 years of system management experience with proven expertise with media & IT systems support management.
• Experience with managing network class professionals, union and non-represented.
Additional Job Requirements
• Must have first-hand experience managing/supporting enterprise level Avid (PAM, MAM & iNews) and EVS ecosystems.
• Must have thorough understanding of broadcast and IT architecture and design.
• Must have thorough understanding of the Avid MAM product as well as a strong awareness for other vendor asset managers, such as Arvato.
• Must have a strong working knowledge of production storage systems, such as Avid Nexis, S3 object storage and streaming proxy media.
• Must be willing to work flexible hours with some international and domestic travel.
