Senior Manager, Science Communications
Reports to: Director, Science Communications
Job Summary:
The Senior Manager, Science Communications supports the Director in developing and delivering the gRED public relations strategy and annual plan. S/he serves as a media spokesperson and has contact with global and national media and trade publications. S/he supports the development and execution of communications initiatives that further gRED’s internal and external reputation. S/he serves as the Public Information Officer for gRED scientific publications, responsible for developing strategic communications plans for up to 15-20 major publications each year. S/he contributes to the gRED publishing strategy, including leading major digital initiatives such as our Portraits in Science series and our Behind the Science editorials on the Genentech corporate website. S/he also helps ensure that all gRED content on the various internal and external channels is kept updated and fresh. S/he collaborates closely with Internal Communications, Human Resources and Global Roche to ensure gRED milestones, partnerships and projects are communicated effectively to all internal and external audiences through the various relevant communications channels. S/he supports the Director in measuring impact and keeping dashboards and metrics updated.
Responsibilities:
Support the development and implementation of the gRED communications plan

Serve as media spokesperson on gRED milestones and other storytelling opportunities
Represent gRED as PIO (Public Information Officer) responsible for creating communications strategies for top tier scientific publications and data presentations at medical meetings that provide synergies with existing science PR priorities
Collaborate with gPartnering team and relevant Roche colleagues for communications related to key U.S. partnering deals
Support the execution of new and existing communications initiatives (Behind the Science editorials, gene.com Science Hub, Big Ideas videos, etc.) while continuously improving and amplifying impact
Coordinate with Genentech and Roche Internal Communications teams to develop stories about gRED milestones and publish them via gWiz and MyRoche, etc. for all employees. Support Internal Communications on Science-related employee events as needed
Manage business operations in support of Science Communications (relevant molecule updates for gene.com/Roche.com, updating gRED eBook, review of materials for external presentations/brochures as needed, etc.)
Manage dashboard and measurement analytics
Qualified candidates will have:
BS/BA or advanced degree
5+ years of experience, a mixture of agency and corporate preferred
Biotech or pharma experience in the research/early discovery and development area is highly desirable
Science background preferred
Strong understanding of evolving technology and communication platforms
Demonstrated public relations and communication skills, with a particular focus on experience working with the top tier and trade media, including developing pitches, managing positive and negative news stories, building relationships with reporters and driving for results
Demonstrated experience in creating and leading teams to accomplish tasks with measurable ROI
Proficiency in decision making; understanding the broad context for decisions and taking accountability for the outcome
Excellent leadership, collaboration, communication and risk taking skills
Comfort in navigating ambiguity and conflict while maintaining productive relationships
Ability to influence peers and senior management without direct authority
Experience directly engaging with senior management with minimal oversight
