Operate heavy or light construction equipment.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

•Perform a variety of semi-skilled and skilled work in the operation of heavy equipment, machinery, trucks, tools in construction and repair activities, and will be required to perform a certain amount of manual labor.

•Requires 2 years of equipment and/or truck operation.

•Must have a basic knowledge of road construction/maintenance procedures, perform work with little direction to aid in the efficient and effective completion of the project or assigned task.

•Must be available to respond to and work extraordinary hours during emergency events.

•Must perform work in a courteous, safe manner.

•Must be able to follow instructions from senior employees.

•Must perform work in a courteous and safe manner and maintain working relationships with co-workers.

•When contact with the public is required, the employee must maintain a courteous, helpful attitude.

•Perform other duties as assigned.



High School Diploma or GED desired.

Required experience:

Two years experience as an equipment operator and working knowledge of tools and light and heavy equipment necessary for maintenance activities used in servicing county roads. Working knowledge of road and bridge construction.


Valid Colorado Class-A Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with tanker endorsement required or Class B CDL and the ability to acquire Class A with tanker endorsement within 60 days.

Required Skills, Knowledge and Abilities:

• Must be able to pass Department of Transportation (DOT) physical.

Must have a demonstrated proficiency in 2 of the following areas:

•Tracked Hydraulic Excavator


•Front end loader


•Tandem axle truck

•Asphalt Paver

•Backhoe (smaller than a John Deere 510)

•Compaction Equipment

•Skid Steer

•Motor Grader

Other Necessary Requirements
Language Skills:

Must be able to read and speak the English language sufficiently to converse with the general public, to understand highway traffic signs and signals in the English language, to respond to official inquiries, and to make entries on reports and records

Mathematical Skills:

Ability to add and subtract two digit numbers and to multiply and divide with 10's and 100's.

Reasoning Ability:

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out written or oral instructions.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works near moving mechanical parts and in outside weather conditions. The employee is frequently exposed to fumes or airborne particles and vibration. The employee occasionally works in high, precarious places and is occasionally exposed to extreme heat and cold temperatures.

The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.
