The Dane County Human Services Department is recruiting for professional Social Workers. This recruitment will be used to fillafull-time (1.0 FTE) Social Worker - Children's Long Term Support vacancy. The Eligible List created will be used to fill future vacancies within the next six (6) months.

Starting hourly rate of$24.05 with further increases to $31.60, plus excellent benefits including fully paid dental and HMO health insurance premiums for full time employees. The County will also provide contributions towards POS health insurance premiums and short/long term disability. Employees hired after 7-1-11 must be expected to work a minimum of 1200 hours annually to be enrolled in the Wisconsin Retirement System when hired. Dane County also provides six (6) weeks of paid parental leave for birth or adoption of a child.

DEFINITION
Under the supervision of the Children's Social Work Supervisor, Children's Long Term Support Social Workers develop long-term working relationships with children and young adults from birth to twenty-one years old, who experience intellectual, physical, emotional, developmental and other disabilities. Most have additional complicating factors such as medical, psychiatric, sensory or behavioral challenges which require multi-system coordination.

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES
Children's Long-Term Support Social Workers work closely with families, guardians, schools, service providers and natural supports; coordinate comprehensive assessments of individuals' needs; develop family and person-centered plans; act as team leaders, facilitating regular stakeholder meetings; mediate conflicts; comply with court requirements; develop or connect people to needed paid and unpaid supports; monitor the continued appropriateness and effectiveness of supports, making changes as warranted; autonomously complete daily, monthly and annual paperwork needed to maintain Medicaid waiver services and other public benefits; perform other duties as assigned with flexibility, humor and creativity. Children's Long-Term Support Social Workers seek to ensure health and safety while promoting self-determination, community belonging, valued social roles, the sharing of ordinary places, opportunities for contribution, and choice. They provide on-going therapeutic interventions to children and families in community based settings, such as a child's home, neighborhood, school, or other places where people without disabilities typically spend time.


Education, Experience & Special Requirements
Applicants with a Bachelors or Masters Degree in Social Work will be screened through. Applicants who are currently in their final semester of school and are obtaining a Bachelors or Masters Degree in Social Work will also be screened through. Applicants with any other major must possess a temporary or permanent Social Work Certification from the WI Department of Safety and Professional Services (DSPS) prior to applying (a training certificate will not be accepted).

All individuals must possess a degree and a temporary or permanent Social Work Certification from the WI Department of Safety and Professional Services (DSPS) prior to the first day of employment. If any applicant does not possess a temporary or permanent certification on the first day of employment the job offer will be rescinded and they will be terminated. Candidates with a temporary certificate must obtain a permanent certification within one (1) year in order to pass probation.


Special Requirements:


- Applicants applying for the Children's Long Term Support Division must have two (2) years of professional experience working directly with individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities.
- Must takeAND pass the State of Wisconsin's test to become a Children's Long Term Care Functional Screener within sixty days of hire.
- Requires a valid driver's license (or eligibility for), access to reliable personal motor vehicle transportation, and a good driving record.


Background Check Statement:
Some positions may require a criminal background check which can include fingerprinting due to the nature of the job's responsibilities. Wisconsin's Fair Employment Law, s. 111.31 – 111.395, Wis. - Basic understanding of human growth and behavior and awareness of how sensory-motor differences, developmental and physical disabilities and may impact this.
- Knowledge of and experience with current human service philosophies and approaches such as self-determination, person and family centered planning, community inclusion, trauma informed care and asset based community development.
- Ability to develop positive, long-term relationships with people who have disabilities, understand their concerns and mental health issues and act to address them in a timely, respectful and effective manner.
- Ability to quickly acquire and apply knowledge of laws, regulations, policies and procedures relating to people with developmental disabilities.
- Knowledge of and ability to access community resources that may be used by people with intellectual, developmental and other disabilities.
- Ability to prioritize, manage and resolve urgent or crisis situations.
- Capacity to organize large amounts of information and manage complex situations to achieve the most effective individual and programmatic outcomes.
- Ability to be decisive, consistent and diplomatic.
- Possession of good verbal and written skills, the ability to follow oral and written instructions, autonomously meet deadlines, participate in and appropriately use supervision.
