The assignment for this Sr. Electrical Designer will be approximately 12 months.
Bechtel is designing, constructing, and commissioning the world’s largest radioactive-waste treatment plant for the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) in southeastern Washington State. The project will use vitrification technology to process and stabilize 56 million gallons (212 million liters) of radioactive and chemical waste stored at the Hanford Site which is a byproduct of plutonium-production during World War II and the Cold War era.
Positions located at the Construction Site (22 miles north of Richland) work a 4 x 10 schedule, M-Th, 6:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. All other work locations (Richland WA, San Francisco CA and Reston VA) work a 9-80’s schedule, M-F 7:00 am to 4:30 pm with alternating Fridays off.
Job Responsibilities (may include but are not limited to):
Electrical Physical (and circuit and raceway)
Designer responsible for raceway design, equipment location and layout, C&R schedule inputting and update, conduit and aboveground raceway design for HLW/LAW/BOF/LAB design.
Works under the direction of more senior engineers/designers.
Responsible to produce drawings and documentation in accordance with established design and scope including design of lighting, grounding layout, grounding designs/calculations, and lightning protection systems.
Must be a self-starter and capable of independent creative design, with direction, using Bechtel and industry proven concepts, and procedures.
Must work well with others, other disciplines, and groups.
Must have proven 2D and 3D CADD skills.
Must have experience with an electronic Cable Management System, such as the SETROUTE program, and be able to input and complete corrections to the data base.
Responsibilities also include ensuring that the electrical systems design comply with all applicable installation codes, regulations and standards. May interface with Construction and Subcontractors.
Must be able to effectively communicate and work well with others and within a team.
Must be able to work well with other disciplines.
Must know how to use computer programs such as the Microsoft WINDOWS suite of programs.
Ability to cope with conflicting deadline, frequent interruptions and multiple tasks.
AA/AS degree with 8 years (Grade 25) or 11 years (Grade 26) of related electrical design experience; or 12 years (Grade 25) or 14 years (Grade 26) related electrical design experience.
Hands-on use or working knowledge of using industry wide electrical design/drafting tools, such as CAD 2D, cable designing and routing software and 3D electrical model design platform
Eligible Foreign National applicants must possess a US Government issued Green Card and successfully go through a government screening process.
Must be able to complete and pass a pre-employment drug screen, physical (if located at the construction site), and background check which includes verification of employment and education
Must be able to obtain a Department of Energy badge for access to the Hanford Site.
Hands-on schematics and electrical equipment layouts
Hands-on Microsoft office programs (Excel, Word, Outlook, Access and PowerPoint)
Knowledge & application of NEC code and ANSI/IEEE Standards
Excellent oral & written communications skills
Hands-on use or knowledge using a 3D electrical model design platform
Hands-on experience with SETROUTE program, and be able to input and complete corrections in the data base
Previous Bechtel and/or DOD or DOE project experience
