What you’ll be doing...
You’ll help us take care of our most important asset—our people—by helping them stay well. You’ll be accountable for managing the administration of Verizon disability plans and policies by various vendors and ensuring delivery of an efficient, high quality, cost effective end-to-end absence experience.You’ll function as a point of contact for escalations due to short-term disability, long-term disability, FMLA and leaves of absence issues.

Supervising a team of employees, which includes, planning work and dividing it among employees; training, coaching & counseling employees, directing the work of employees; managing the performance of the employees including setting objectives, assessing performance, placing employees on performance improvement plans, and recommending disciplinary action.
Managing vendor relationships, employee interactions, data reviews, payroll requests and audits, benefits partnerships, interactions with HR Business Partners, interactions with business leaders, and disability vendors.
Identifying, addressing, resolving, and effectively managing the short-term disability, long-term disability, and FMLA leave processes.
Consulting regularly with the legal department on escalated issues to minimize Company exposure and liability.
Consulting with HR Business Partners and the EEOC team on any changes and updates relevant to employment laws to ensure fair and consistent treatment for all employees.
Researching issues and driving toward quick resolution in order to minimize absenteeism.
Planning and executing work by taking ownership of employee issues while working autonomously.
Partnering with field and HR to identify and improve upon consistent challenge areas that may indicate deficiencies in administration, processes, and or plan design.
Reviewing individual situations on a daily basis, discussing solutions and influencing decisions with all levels of management and Legal.
Training, educating, and supporting HR on leave administration processes.
Searching for process improvements by independently partnering with many different groups within and outside of the business.
What we’re looking for...
You’ll need to have:
Bachelor’s degree or four or more years of relevant work experience.
Four or more years of relevant work experience.
Experience with disability.
Supervisory experience.
Even better if you have:
A Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources.
Four or more years of disability and benefits administration
Proven ability to successfully work in a fast-paced and ambiguous environment
Advanced knowledge of Verizon HR Guidelines and paid/unpaid benefits.
Understanding of the Company’s current Disability Summary Plan Description (SPD) Plan.
Comprehensive knowledge of federal and state employment laws, most importantly STD, ADA and FMLA.
Facilitation and training experience.
Experience with HRIS, PeopleSoft, Cognos Reporting, Excel and PowerPoint.
Ability to interact and influence all levels of management through superior customer service and interpersonal skills.
