Job Overview Over the last few decades the Modem systems group at Qualcomm has been instrumental in driving the mobile communication revolution which has touched every aspects of our modern life. From the early days of CDMA to 3G UMTS to 4G LTE , LTE Advanced and now onto 5G NR, Qualcomm modem systems group has been a key player in moving these technologies from concept to lab to actual mass scale real life deployments. You now have an opportunity of joining this team which drove the 4G LTE based smartphone revolution and is now best positioned to expand into new areas such as 5G NR, IoT, Vehicular communication(V2X). In this position, you will contribute to enabling smartphones to provide the essential support for IMS multimedia telephony services over the new 5G NR networks, in addition to over LTE and WiFi networks. You will be designing cutting-edge solutions that bring together IMS, SMS, Voice, Video, RCS, AR, VR and other innovative application solutions based on IMS. Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Information Systems, Computer Science, or related field.
2+ years Systems Engineering or related work experience.
MS or PhD in Electrical Engineering & Computer Science.
Strong knowledge of multimedia real time communication protocols and performance requirements
Experience with designing end-to-end solutions/system for services and features including signaling protocols (e.g., SIP), interfaces and associated complete system behaviors.
Experience with handling inter-RAT mobility between 5G, LTE, and WiFi while maintaining ongoing IMS sessions with minimal impact to user experience
Design of efficient solutions to providing IMS services over 5G/NR with fallback to 4G (along with possible downgrading of service) when not in 5G coverage.
Ability to analyze performance (delay, power, quality) of current solution to continually improve the IMS product offering along with chipset evolution.
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills to perform tradeoff studies.
Analyze operator requirements to assess compliance of our product to these requirements and identify gaps.
Provide systems designs that minimize customization for different operators.
Leverage her/his experience with communication services and associated features to support collaborative engagements with ecosystem partners (e.g., infrastructure, OEMs, application providers).
Ability to derive system requirements from product requirements and standards specifications.
Monitor developments in 3GPP, IETF and GSMA to analyze possible change requests and assess their suitability from the perspective of Qualcomm implementation.
Ability to program effectively in C/C++, Python and/or Matlab.
Experience with wireless standards (i.e. LTE/WiFi/5G/UMTS).
up to 4 year's Systems Engineering or related work experience.
Passion for learning and intellectual curiosity.
