The Point of Sale Systems Management and Monitoring Engineer reports to the Manager, POS/SCO in Kroger Technology and is a member of a team of 22 associates (application analysts, developers, quality engineer, release coordinator) including support from 14 contractors (9 offshore) with service owner responsibility for Point-of-Sale (POS) & Self-Checkout (SCO). Responsible for 3rd level application support and SLAs for 2,800+ grocery stores. Opportunity to be involved in project work for key strategic initiatives that involve responsibilities in the areas of gathering and documenting functional business requirements, designing enhancements, testing various parts of the application, and software deployment. Excellent verbal and written communication skills to enable efficient interactions with our business partners in Friendly & Experience, vendors, stores, divisions, the Kroger Support Center and other teams within Kroger Technology. A passion for putting the customer first. Ability to work in a team but also work independently in a lab and occasionally onsite at local stores. Excellent problem-solving and troubleshooting skills required. This role will be responsible for continuing to deliver and enhance our ability to manage and monitor our POS environments. Previous experience with enterprise level endpoint management solutions such as BigFix, Tanium, NetOp, Truno or SCCM a plus. Experience with monitoring tools such as Nagios, SCOM or ITM a plus. Must be able to understand complex enterprise infrastructure environments and communications from top to bottom including MQ, MQTT, Kafka, RMI, Multicast. Familiar with using and developing API's and microservice based architectures. Solid understanding of how to take data and present visually using tools such as Grafana for measuring services against KPI's. Familiar with using application lifecycle management tools for all aspects of code development, packaging and testing.
Position Summary:

The technology engineer is responsible for the system’s overall infrastructure, including engineering, implementation and integration, and technical services and support. This role will design, implement/install, maintain and administer infrastructure systems, including hardware, software and various configurations; monitor overall performance to proactively identify potential issues and correct them appropriately; and perform root cause analysis on failed components and implement corrective measures. The technology engineer mentors and coaches others to establish and improve processes and procedures. Essential Job Functions:

Ensure adherence to architecture standards and roadmaps.
Design and successfully implement overall infrastructure/middleware components for each project with infrastructure teams, ensuring that the overall solution is designed to meet service-level agreements (SLA) concerning performance and uptime, disaster recovery (DR) specifications, and scalability needs required by the solution.
Ensure that post-production operational processes/deliverables are well designed and implemented prior to the project moving into the solution support phase.
Define and create operational procedures, processes, and scripts.
Follow appropriate change/release management practices.
Support and maintain infrastructure solutions utilizing required tools and technologies.
Develop and maintain deployed technology list for each infrastructure discipline.
Assist in the evaluation, selection, and implementation of new technologies with infrastructure teams to ensure adherence to architecture guidelines for the introduction of new technologies.
Evaluate vendors’ technical and support capabilities.
Provide technical leadership on establishing standards and guidelines.
