As an Excise Tax Senior, we will look to you to support multiple and challenging tax engagements and contribute to the delivery of innovative tax planning ideas for our diverse clients.

Your key responsibilities
Possess experience and knowledge regarding excise tax; key areas of focus for our practice include motor fuel, air transportation, manufacturers and retail excise taxes such as alcohol and tobacco excise taxes
Actively engage in required consultations
Focus on self-development, coaching and developing staff
Identify and support operational efficiencies
Challenge the effectiveness of the tax strategy and approach for all engagements
Support your team in developing strong relationships across a network of existing and future clients and key stakeholders
Support your team in providing insight, connectedness and responsiveness to all clients while demonstrating a good understanding of their business
Skills and attributes for success
Demonstrate an understanding of excise tax concepts and effectively apply tax knowledge to client situations
Support your team in developing and delivering quality tax planning approaches with timely and responsive services and work products that meet and/or exceed client expectations
Prepare federal and state excise tax filings and/or assist in the review process for these filings
Assist in identifying and engaging clients in opportunities for excise tax compliance, planning, and other special services
Perform the work of client service team members while participating in and contributing to the attainment of team goals
Thoroughly and accurately analyze information for multiple work streams
Prepare quality, practical approaches to the client's tax situation and arrive at appropriate conclusions
Assist in developing recommendations and implementation plans and make informed decisions in complex and judgmental areas
To qualify for the role you must have
Minimum of 3 years of excise tax experience
A bachelor's or master’s degree in accounting, finance, business or related field
Must have a plan to achieve either a US CPA license, an IRS Enrolled Agent Certification, or become a member of US State bar
Excellent verbal/written communications skills
Effective time management skills
Ability to work in fast paced professional services environment
Experience with excise tax compliance and determination
Ideally, you’ll also have
Deep experience preparing fuel supplier and fuel distributor tax returns, carrier summary and terminal operator reports, federal excise tax returns; highway use tax, IFTA reports – with some experience in the reviewer role for these returns
Experience in excise tax compliance software such as Avalara Returns Excise and IGEN Fuels and also implementation of such tools
Knowledge around excise tax determination software and tax determination implementation projects
