In August of 2017, Georgia Power selected Bechtel to complete construction of the two-reactor expansion of a nuclear power plant near Augusta, Georgia. Plant Vogtle Units 3 & 4 will be the first new units built in the U.S. in the last three decades and are currently the only new units being constructed in the country.
At the peak of construction, this vital project will employ up to 5,000 on site. These positions will include building tradespeople, engineers, field supervisors, construction and project managers, quality assurance professionals, safety professionals, procurement, subcontract specialists and many others.
This position may be required to work a schedule of rotating shifts including nights, weekends, or holidays. All employees are subject to and agree to random drug and alcohol testing as a condition of continued employment for the duration of their assignment. The ability to obtain/maintain access to the facility is required.
Assigned to a field construction organization in a supervisory or managerial position. Responsible for the organization and direction of construction and related activities within assigned area of responsibility, which may be a single area or multi-area of the construction project. Responsibilities are to ensure assigned job-site operations are in compliance with design/specifications, completion on or ahead of schedule, within budget and to defined quality standards. Receives technical and operational direction from assigned site construction manager.
Provides technical and administrative direction to superintendents, construction engineers, coordinators, administrators and others, within the designated area. Job-site contacts are with clients and their representatives, subcontractors, suppliers, labor union representatives, project management and any job-site personnel assigned within area of responsibility.
Responsible for job-site operations, as assigned, including all onsite activities of Bechtel, subcontractors, suppliers, clients and their representatives and others as may be assigned within area of responsibility. Approve the layout of temporary construction facilities for the project.
Overall responsibility for craft worker safety on the project in accordance with Bechtel’s established Zero Accidents safety program.
Supervises all Building Superintendents assigned to the designated area(s).
Manages staffing levels per the approved staffing plan.
Monitor actual work performance against the project budget and schedule.
Ensures the quality of work performed meets requirements. Review the project design to identify potential changes that will improve the constructability of the work. Identify construction critical items that have the potential of impacting the work schedule.
Develop and implement a plan for system and area turnovers that coordinates the activities of all craft disciplines.
Monitor quantity reporting process and progress.
Responsible for the area field organization to ensure the job-site organization is composed of qualified and knowledgeable personnel, and ensures effective personnel utilization. Monitor General Foreman/Foreman and Foreman/Worker ratios on the project. Ensure that craft work on the project is effectively using project automation tools.
Establishes, coordinates and implements construction schedules, resource charts, material and equipment requirements. Sets and meets project cost and schedule targets.
Controls job-site expenditures, in assigned area, for labor, equipment, material and services and ensures field operations are within the budget
Monitor construction equipment utilization and maintenance. Monitor tool usage at site. Approve Filed Materials Requisitions for tools and consumables and ensure that the crafts have the tools they require to be productive.
Responsible for craft jurisdictional assignments in accordance with the Labor Agreement.
