Description
 
The VP & Actuary, Annuities Valuation reports to the Chief Actuary, Valuation and is a key member of the Annuity Chief Actuary leadership team.  This leader will lead a 40 person statutory and GAAP valuation function for Individual Annuities and responsible for the timely completion of financial results. 
 
The incumbent must have strong analytical skills, the depth/breadth of knowledge to manage and resolve complex regulatory and actuarial issues, and the ability to prioritize and drive cross-functional initiatives.  He/she must be able to explain actuarial concepts and results to non-technical audiences and build strong relationships with Business Partners and corporate functions (e.g., Corporate Actuarial Oversight, Finance, Investments, IT).  He/she must also be able to motivate and develop the Annuities Valuation Team.  
Responsibilities include:
Understanding and complying with all regulatory and professionalism requirements and Pru’s actuarial and ethical standards
Producing accurate, complete, and timely financial results under appropriate controls and using efficient and consistent approaches and infrastructure
Anticipating stakeholder needs and proactively developing and communicating analytics that explain key business drivers and the implications of reported results
Identifying and evaluating valuation methodologies and proposing compliant solutions that meet inforce and new business objectives
Monitoring and influencing regulatory developments, assessing and communicating potential cross-functional implications, and coordinating the company’s internal and external responses
Qualifications
 
Fellow of the Society of Actuaries (FSA) with 10+ years of experience, including valuation leadership
Deep knowledge of US Statutory, Tax, and GAAP reporting, analysis, and controls – particularly for variable annuities with living benefit guarantees
Excellent presentation and communication skills.  Ability to communicate results and regulatory issues to C-suite executives; Finance, Risk, Investment, Pricing, and Product leaders; and regulators.
Proven track record of strategic thinking, innovation, and execution – turning actuarial insights into measurable and meaningful results  
Extensive experience and success in developing a vision, building high performing teams, cultivating relationships, influencing executive level leadership, and securing broad organizational support
Highly motivated and creative problem solver who thrives in a fast-paced, results-oriented, matrix environment
Experience with other functions (e.g., Pricing, Modeling, Assumptions, ALM) and multiple product lines is a plus.
