An Invitation to Apply for the Position of
Vice President and Treasurer
Carleton College, a distinguished private liberal arts college, seeks an experienced and collaborative leader to become its next Vice President and Treasurer (“VPT”). Located in the historic river town of Northfield, Minnesota and recognized as the nation’s top college for undergraduate teaching, Carleton is known for its academic rigor, intellectual curiosity, and sense of humor. Carleton is devoted to maintaining a diverse residential community where students live and learn in close proximity to one another, and to building upon its extensive international engagements that prepare students for global lives and careers.
The next VPT at Carleton will navigate the financial future and promote the priorities of a college which is fortunate to be in a financially stable position at the current time and prospective future. The VPT oversees all financial operations and many business functions, stewards the college’s assets, and manages risks prudently and in alignment with Carleton’s mission and vision. The VPT will provide strategic leadership of a complex portfolio including finance, facilities management, human resources, and various auxiliary services. Serving as the college’s chief financial officer, the VPT will have direct oversight of Carleton’s operating budget and oversee approximately 230 staff. This leader will report to the President, be an active member of the President’s senior leadership team, and work collaboratively with the other members of the senior staff.
The ideal candidate will be an inventive and seasoned leader who is well versed in trends and best practices in higher education financial management and associated administrative areas. The ideal candidate will bring to the position integrity, strong analytic skills, exceptional communication skills, and enthusiasm for Carleton’s mission to provide an exceptional undergraduate liberal arts education. The next VPT will possess significant administrative leadership experience in financial planning and analysis, preferably in higher education.
