Job Overview Join Qualcomm Technologies, Inc., and contribute to the corporate and industry-wide initiatives for developing advanced video codec. The successful candidates will be part of the video R&D team developing next generation video coding technologies. Offered positions range from senior engineer to principal engineer level. Responsibilities:
Contribute to the conception, development, implementation and optimization of new algorithms allowing to further improve coding efficiency over state-of-the-art video codecs such as VVC.
Develop compression methods for volumetric video formats such as Point Cloud, used to represent live captured 3D content for augmented and virtual reality systems.
Consider application of the latest advancements in Machine Learning to video compression.
Champion the results of your work in the related standardization forums: JVET, MPEG Video and ITU-T/VCEG.
Contribute to the implementation of HEVC and future video codecs such as VVC on mobile devices. Develop encoder algorithms such as mode decision, motion estimation and rate control. Initiate ideas, design and implement algorithms for superior encoder performance, including perceptually based bit allocation with reasonable complexity and implementation cost.

Minimum Qualifications 2+ years industry or academic experience required in one or more of the following areas:
Digital signal processing and information theory, familiarity with latest machine learning technology a bonus.
Record of innovation: granted patents in the area of video or image coding, processing, publications.
PhD degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or Computer Science preferred.
Knowledge of multimedia compression and the relevant formats such as H.265/HEVC, H.264/MPEG-4 AVC.
Proficiency in C++ and/or C programming, experience with SIMD and code optimization preferred.
Knowledge of quantitatively assessing hardware implementation requirements of algorithms
Education Requirements Required: Master's, Computer Engineering and/or Computer Science and/or Electrical Engineering
Preferred: Doctorate, Computer Engineering and/or Computer Science and/or Electrical Engineering
