Requirements

Web Developer Georgetown University's Center for New Designs in Learning and Scholarship

The Web Developer participates in the design and development of websites and web application projects for the Center for New Designs in Learning and Scholarship (CNDLS). S/he manages development tasks include coding, testing, and supporting applications and their underlying databases. The incumbent also collaborates with other CNDLS staff on designing user interfaces and application structure.

Web Development

- Participates in iterative design and development discussions of web projects.
- Implements development tasks toward the completion of web projects.
- Collaborates with members of the development team and other staff on designing and developing user interfaces.
- Maintains and updates existing codebase and web projects.


Faculty Support

- Participates in consultations with faculty around the use of technology in the classroom.
- Assists in documentation of and training in the use of CNDLS web applications.
- Provides courteous general faculty support service as a point of contact by telephone, email, or in the office.


Server Administration & Maintenance

- Provides administrative support for routine maintenance of server level applications.
- Installs and administers testing server environments and other server level development tools for development team.
- Deploys applications on servers (Georgetown and external servers).


Research and New Applications

- Researches new technologies that have the potential to improve teaching and learning in the classroom.
- Researches, experiments, and recommends new development frameworks methods that further the team's experience and expertise.


Qualifications

- Bachelor's Degree, preferably in Computer Science or other related field
- One-four years of experience in web development
- Working with WordPress (designing and developing plugins and themes)
- Create dynamic prototypes, interactions and animations using CSS and JavaScript (Working Knowledge of Query is required)
- Experience with Git and with Django (or similar frameworks)
- Practical knowledge of responsive web development
- Have general experience with server-side technology, including PHP and Python
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Value mentorship, learning and sharing knowledge
- Insight of user-center design and knowledge of web design principles


Preferred Qualifications

- Experience with Bootstrap (or other similar frameworks)
- Experience with Apache web server
- Experience with RHEL
- Experience with Heroku and AWS
