Perform skilled welding work on county equipment, vehicles, bridges, etc.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities

•Perform a variety of semi-skilled and skilled work in the operation of welding, heavy equipment, machinery, trucks, tools in construction and repair activities, and will be required to perform a certain amount of manual labor.
• Performs critical welding repair work on vehicles, equipment and bridges using gas and arc welders; cuts and welds various metals.
• Welds bridges as specified and according to plans; performs all welds on bridges that require a certified welder.
•Must be available to respond to and work extraordinary hours during emergency events.
•Prepares surfaces to be welded by grinding, sanding, filing or whatever is necessary to make joints fit properly; selects proper electrodes and current to make a strong and neat weld.
• Uses and operates a variety of hand and power tools including gas and arc welders, grinders, power sanders, chisels, hammers and other tools common to welding repair work Must perform work in a courteous, safe manner.
•Must be able to follow instructions from senior employees.
•Must perform work in a courteous and safe manner and maintain working relationships with co-workers.
•Keeps written records of work performed and materials used; develops and submits related reports as required.
•Performs some field repairs in emergencies; drives to locations for field repairs.
•Performs minor mechanical repair and maintenance work on vehicles as assigned.
•Acts as a lead worker, as assigned.
•Performs related work as required. Working knowledge of road and bridge construction.
•When contact with the public is required, the employee must maintain a courteous, helpful attitude.
•Must have a working knowledge of the procedures, materials and equipment used in welding repair.
•Working knowledge of the hazards and safety precautions common to the position.
•Skill in the use of welding equipment.
•Ability to follow verbal and written instructions.
•Perform other duties as assigned.
High School Diploma or GED desired.
Four years experience in gas and electrical welding OR any equivalent combination of education and experience.
Valid Colorado Class-A Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with tanker endorsement required or the ability to acquire Class A with tanker endorsement within 60 days.
Welding Certification - D1.1 Structural Certification required or ability to obtain within 6 months. Structural Certification to include flat, horizontal, vertical and overhead.
Required Skills, Knowledge and Abilities:
•Arc stick/electrode welding required
•Oxy/acetylene cutting skills required
Must have a demonstrated proficiency in 2 of the following areas OR a basic familiarity with and experience working with a variety of:
•Tracked Hydraulic Excavator
•Front end loader
•Tandem axle truck
•Backhoe (smaller than a John Deere 510)
Other Necessary Requirements
Must be able to read and speak the English language sufficiently to converse with the general public, to understand highway traffic signs and signals in the English language, to respond to official inquiries, and to make entries on reports and records.
Ability to add and subtract two digit numbers and to multiply and divide with 10's and 100's.
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out written or oral instructions.
