The Poet is in You and Me!
The Poetry in me,
Has strong roots, just like a tree,
Tapping deeply into metric paradigm,
But I really won't compete,
With those self proclaimed elite,
Who ignore good grammar, rhythm, beat and rhyme.
--------------------------------------------------
Just call me Simple Simon,
I'm the poor man's gourmet pie man,
I'll deliver you a poem with a twist,
If environmental issues,
Get you grabbing for the tissues,
I'll provide a little humour to assist.
---------------------------------------------------
There are some who fail to see,
I'm in love with poetry,
This is not a passing phase I'm going through,
I've been rhyming for a while,
Taking care not to defile,
How poetic words convey our passions true.
---------------------------------------------------
Prose alone, like pantomime,
Fills feint hunger, given time,
But with prose alone, no matter how you state it,
It just will not pass the test,
Grammar gourmets must digest,
Without rhyming couplets dressed to elevate it.
----------------------------------------------------
Now if poetry's proficiency,
Is what you seek, I'll guarantee,
That seldom will your rhymes succeed first time,
But with every new correction,
Practice points you to perfection,
'Till in no time you'll write verses quite sublime.
-----------------------------------------------------
Just like strawberries and cream,
When together, taste supreme,
Prose alone that does not rhyme is just no fun,
So let's all now raise our glasses,
Handsome lads and bonnie lasses,
To the poet that's inside us, everyone.

When not researching the weird or the wonderful, the comical or the cultured, the sinful or the serious, I chase my creative side, the results of which can be seen as selected photographs of my travels on my website at:http://ken-boddie.squarespace.com
The author of the above, Ken Boddie, besides being a sometime poet and occasional writer, is an enthusiastic photographer, rarely leisure-travelling without his Canon, and loves to interact with other like-minded people with diverse interests.
Ken's three day work week (part time commitment) as a consulting engineer allows him to follow his photography interests, and to plan trips to an ever increasing list of countries and places of scenic beauty and cultural diversity.

hey, Claire ..... Your poem does please, And rhymes with ease, While beating the architect’s drum, Your mood has shifted, Your spirit’s lifted, Please send me whatever you’re on.

Without being haughty Boddie rhymes with naughty Ken's favorite rice is Basmati which he eats with chipati For dessert there's biscotti Tomorrow's dinner will be Heterosomati, (with lemon butter) He listens to pavarotti And it's rumored he's Illuminati

I was truly awash with the parallel universe which is BB. Picked up the kids and grandchild in Sydney and we all bundled off up the coast. Water was a bit cold for my mature frame (which the sharks would just spit out in disgust!) - but did indeed get my tootsies wet.

Glad to see you escaped from the 'alternative lifestylers' at Byron, Ian, and avoided becoming shark bait. Just catching up with family, or did you manage to catch a wave or two while there? Don't surf myself, but either way, it sounds like a 'barrel' of fun or, in my case a 'pipe' dream. 😂🤣😂

Your musical metaphor is 'sound', Ali. Yet, a violin's strings can be plucked to make an agreeable tune, but caress them lovingly with a bow and suddenly we're in heaven. So then is rhyme the bow to the strings of a well structured poetic stanza.

I must disagree, my fair Lady Franci\ud83d\udc1dEugenia Hoffman, beBee Brand Ambassador, because, when all's said and done ..... A poem without rhyme, Is like rosemary without thyme, Or strawberries without cream, Even sleep without a dream. Call me an old fogey, or not quite right in the head, But poems just ain't poems, when each line's rhyme has been shed. 😢

#10 I bow to the poetic praise of the Lord of SA (Gert Scholtz) and the eminent Maharaja Manjit. One bestows on me a kingly title, the other a knightly one. Were I to accept but one, then surely I must remember that ...... "Once a king, always a king!" but ..... "Once a knight ....." fair enough !!! 😂😂😂
